STRIDES

STRIDES is the Arc's Traumatic Brain Injury program. The program was started in 1995 and currently has over 26 people being served in various capacities depending on individual needs and desires for assistance. We have had several successes – people received the assistance needed and "graduated" from the program. Persons that were successful have maintained skills put in place and practiced with staff. Although this is scary for most people, they are made aware that if services are ever needed they may reapply for the TBI Waiver. Thus far, no individuals have had to reapply. STRIDES is approved to provide services in Allegany, Steuben, and Cattaraugus Counties. STRIDES provides services to individuals who have incurred a Traumatic Brain Injury. Services are provided in the person's home, community, or structured day program. The services are designed to assist each individual in becoming as independent as possible.

STRIDES provides information about TBI to anyone requesting information and/or resources available.  We will also assist individuals in completing a referral to the RRDS (Rural Resource Development Specialist) in the person's region if they wish to apply for services.
