College Mentor
College Mentor Program
The College Mentor Program focuses on assisting students with varying disabilities in continuing their education. All services provided to the students are determined through person-centered planning to ensure they receive the services they require. Each student receives transportation to and from school and their mentor remains on campus with them to assist as necessary with campus life. This may include attending sporting events, participating in campus clubs, and accessing services of their choice within the surrounding community. Some mentors assist with course study, such as note taking and tutoring, if the student requests it.
In addition to supports to attend the secondary school of their choice, the program provides Prevocational and Supported Employment services to three of the four students, to assist them with preparing to enter the workforce after school.
These students receive the supports they need to be successful at college and work. They also have the opportunity to be an active participant in the community and learn essential life skills. The most important aspect is that the students are involved in every decision including hiring their own mentors and creating their own schedule.
